Busier roads to come…

The latest data revealed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has certainly sparked some conversations in the world of commercial vehicles as of late. Amongst revealing several positives of 2018, including strong deals and important model changes, Chief Executive of SMMT Mike Hawes also revealed that manufacturing grew 8.5% in 2018, resulting in 84,888 vehicles produced.

With such an increase in production, it is to be expected that a considerable amount will be exported for use overseas, though a rise in domestic demand to the effect of 17.9% has also been noted. Furthermore an additional 5,248 commercial vehicles were created specifically for use by UK operators.

This is great news for both the SMMT and industry alike, especially considering the previous two years of decline, though it does raise some concerns for how this might affect the UK roads… With such an increase in commercial vehicles on the roads, should we be giving more attention to creating safer roads and ensuring that road users are operating safely?
