The Cost of Neglecting your Checks…

September saw one of the largest scale ‘commercial vehicle checks’ in recent memory. The local police of Delta, British Columbia; acted out these checks in an effort to remove unsafe vehicles from the road. Occurring from the 25th - 27th of September, this push to improve road safety saw local police set up over several locations in the city of Delta. The vehicles being targeted were those transporting commercial goods, large to small, including light commercial vehicles.

During the 3 day period, a total of 357 vehicles were given full inspections, with mixed results. Only 39 passed, 152 required minor repairs at a later date, and 158 needed repairs before they were allowed to run again. Penalties came to almost $40,000, with over $25,000 in fines and $12,000 in bylaw tickets. Though a full range of issues was seen, a large number of defects were related to vehicles’ wheels, including tire, rim and wheel defects.
